On April 6, MCD's Integrated Flood Protection System is storing water for the third time in 2023. Recent showers and thunderstorms dropped 0.60 to 1.70 inches of rainfall within the Great Miami River Watershed during the evening and nighttime hours on April 5. The heaviest rain fell in the Dayton region and south of Dayton. To understand how the system works: Germantown Dam briefly went into storage around 11pm last night and is now out of storage. Huffman Dam went into storage around 8am this morning and Englewood Dam will likely go into storage later today. The pool behind Huffman Dam has not crested yet. MCD staff closed a floodgate in Hamilton last night to prevent the river from flowing into the city infrastructure.
